Today we started our lesson with our Boom Bag vocabulary review on the Scientific Method. Students then turned in their assignment on their Text Tuesday reading assignment and then we continued our lesson with lab safety and the tools used in the lab. Students were given a writing prompt to create a story based on the lesson on lab safety. They were allowed to take it home for homework if they needed to and I will let them continue working with their partners tomorrow on it in class after the test on the Scientific Method. We finished our lesson with a review of the conversion of the metric system. We will have a quiz on the Scientific Method tomorrow.

Day Three Literacy in Content Tuesday 8/30/17

Scientific Method

Today we started by playing Boom Bag, our vocabulary game, we then began our lesson with a literacy assignment. Yes, I realize it is Wednesday but we didn’t have time to get to this yesterday as we were working hard on formulating our experiments. The focus was still on the scientific method but with an emphasis on literacy skills to help our students boost their reading skills.

Students worked in groups to analyze informational text and then had to construct responses based on what they read. Students will have a quiz on Friday if all goes as planned on the Scientific Method and Lab Safety.  It is never too soon to start studying for this!

The assignment can be seen below:

Day Two August 29th 2017

Today students studied the Scientific Method. They started the day quizzing their partners with their vocabulary words followed by a Flocabulary video if you have never seen this company’s videos, I included one below, these are accessible by subscription only but the kids really enjoy them and they make learning a topic much easier for some. Check them out!

They also worked on hypothesis and developing their own experiments for given scenarios. Tommorrow we will continue our lesson on the scientific method with an emphasis on informational text and reading skills. We will also play Boom Bag a vocabulary game for learning their essential vocabulary.

Students keep up the great work and I will see you tomorrow bright and early! Get some rest.

Solar Eclipse 2017

hibitmap

Hi guys, I am really bummed about not being at school for this monumental event! A total eclipse will occur on August 21, 2017, and can be seen from several states in the U.S. for the first time in 99 years! This is a once in a lifetime event.

Other countries will not be able to see it live. The International Space Center will air this as well as NASA’s live coverage of the event. If you are interested and you should be…..I have included some links for information about the event and some background solar eclipses.

August 21st from 9a PT/12p ET 11a PT/2p ET
Our partners at the Science Channell will be capturing every moment of the Great American Eclipse with live coverage on air and online. They will broadcast live in Madras, Oregon –one of the nation’s premier viewing spots –with astronomers and educators, in partnership with the Lowell Observatory. They will also provide live footage from other prime viewing destinations across America –and you’ll even get a glimpse of the eclipse taken from the International Space Station.
Join our Live Great American Eclipse Twitter Chat
Have your questions answered by world renowned astronomer and astrophysicist, Dr.
