9/21/17 All about Density

density

Students learned about density today and how to calculate density.

D=M/V

That means: 1 gram of H2O has a volume of 1 cm3. 1 cm3 = 1 ml = 1 g of H2O.

Students worked in their INB to complete a graphic organizer on pg 10. See an example of excellent student work below:

So why all the hype about density? Well, if ice were not less dense than water we would have no ice tea! Life in N.C. without ice tea would be a crime. Watch the video below to help you better understand density and the importance of ice tea. LOL

10/3/17 and 10/4/17 NC RIVER BASIN PROJECT

NC MAP OF RIVER BASIN

We started with our vocabulary words and students had some pretty awesome flashcards. take a look below at some awesome student work.

Today students began their projects in class. They were given the project requirements contract to take home, review with a parent, and returned signed to go in their project folders. Please make sure you ask for this and make sure it gets returned tomorrow as this is part of their grade.  Students will be researching NC River BAsins and specifically focusing on the River Basin in which they live in.

They will be expected to compare a variety of factors of their River Basin with those of another as well as identify various organisms that are found in this ecosystem environment. They will be researching various environmental concerns in their local basins as well as any state mandates that have been implemented to help protect the basin in which they live. Students will be working on these in class.

Have a great day.

Monday 10/2/17 NC River Basins

BMP MONDAYS

Today we began with a short Schoolnet Bellringer assessment to gauge students understanding of the material covered thus far.

We continued our look at River Basins and our focus was specifically on NC River Basins. Students got to see how water flows into the Estuary in Raleigh and eventually makes its way to Beaufort NC. Video link is here for those interested.

Students will be starting a research project tomorrow and will be working on this in class. It will consist of four parts and each part must be completed before moving onto the next and I must approve for you to move forward. Students will leave the work in the classroom so as to not lose them. Parents make sure you look for a parent contract signature page informing you of the project criteria and due dates. I will include the signed returned sheet as part of the project grade and need these back the next day or points will be deducted from the final grade.
